Our aims

• Effective forest management
• Ensuring inspection and modelling of the forest health conditions
• Elimination of certain corruption risks in the sphere of forest management
• Creation of effective legislative basis to regulate forest-based relations

Key message: The monitoring of forest health conditions in the Republic of Karelia through Earth remote sensing will result in the tracing of forest resources status on the regular basis which will provide guarantees for effective forest management.

Expected results of the project

• Petrozavodsk State University:
  Creating the Centre of Space Monitoring of Forest Resources of the Republic of Karelia.
  Building mathematical models of forest resources status and forest health conditions.
• School of Forestry at the University of Eastern Finland: Improving the students' education quality through the exchange of information concerning the conditions of Russian and Finnish border territories, as well as through academic exchange and initiatives aimed at further collaboration development.

"Karellesproekt" 

• Establishing the affiliate of PetrSU's Chair of Forest Engineering on the basis of the enterprise's affiliate for training the experts in space imagery decryption.
• Educating and training of qualified specialists
  
  Forest Institute at the Karelian Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences:
• Improving the quality of fundamental research through the information exchange and practical approbation.
• Creating basis for assessment of forest management activities in order to provide forest leaseholders with informed argumentation concerning various types of forest works.

• Improving forest legislation of the Republic of Karelia.
• Advanced training of legal experts in forest law.
